DAS KRONTHALER

Our 2nd stay at Das Kronthaler and we still loved it. Breakfast buffet is my absolute favourite, and it's open till 11am which is wonderful. Spa area is still lovely and the room was comfortable and cosy. The ladies who serviced our room as well as our first dinner and breakfasts were warm, friendly and very helpful. I did notice some staff from the bar and breakfast were really not having a good mood, and were not so friendly towards us. I think this isn't so nice given that it's a holiday destination where people come to relax and enjoy. One of us unfortunately got food poisoning, likely from the fish dish during our second dinner, we informed the hotel during check out where they apologised.

I was so excited to go to this hotel as the website depicted a calm, peaceful, luxurious place to relax. Unfortunately, before we booked there was no indication that this hotel would openly break the law. We were not informed of this until after booking. A few days before arriving, we got a welcome letter about their COVID policies (attached photo). We then decided to call the hotel to clarify their letter. One of us is immunocompromised, so we were wondering if we could be served at the restaurants by employees who choose to wear masks. We were not asking for their staff who did not already wear masks to wear masks, but if an employee chose to wear a mask already could interact with us. This would not be a breach of their philosophy. We were met with a rude response, being put on hold without being asked/told, and redirected to another employee who had no idea what was going on. I would expect transparency before booking for such an expensive, luxurious hotel who pride themselves in service.

I stayed here for three nights with my husband. We had a great time enjoying the spa area and the hiking that the surrounding area has to offer. Pros: - Beautiful room, ours had a free standing bathtub as well as a luxurious shower and enough space to make ourselves feel at home - The location couldn’t be better, with challenging and easier hiking tours and only a short walk to the Achensee - With the package we booked (“Himmlische Momente”), four meals a day and unlimited water were included, dinner had an amazing salad bar and most of the courses served were good. When we went for a hike that would take most of the day the hotel was kind enough to make up lunch packs for us. - The sauna area was always clean and not crowded in the times we used it. There are four saunas to choose from, cold showers, and a tea and snack bar. - Overall the staff did their best to make the stay pleasant and were always polite and helpful with any questions we had. Cons: - As two 50€ vouchers for a massage or other wellness/ beauty treatment were included in our package, we were looking forward to treating ourselves to a couples massage. Sadly, when we wanted to make a reservation the day after arriving, all but the most basic massage at an inconvenient time were booked out. The hotel does let you know in the booking email to book spa treatments ahead, it would have been nice of them to tell us in person when we made the booking or latest when checking in. We ended up wasting one voucher on a massage we didn’t end up doing as it was in the middle of the day, and using the other to buy a product from the skincare line affiliated with the hotel. - Obviously when cooking for a large number of guests it is not possible to make every course from scratch as it is ordered. However this did mean that some meals seemed like they had been prepared in advance and sitting around for a while before they were served. At breakfast eggs appeared very quickly after ordering, but did not taste freshly made. All in all I would give the food 8/10 stars though.

We only had time to stay for one night, that was a pity, because it was so beautiful. The staff was super friendly and professional. I never experienced such an excellent service before. The food was delicious, healthy and you get everything you can imagine, they even have options for various diets (low carb, gluten-free, vegan). Another plus is that you can have fresh tap water for free and you get a very nice give-away and snack for your return-home journey. Only one thing would be extra nice and that would be a water bed for two in the spa relaxation room. It was great. Big thanks to the whole team.
